Christmas Sounds
Additional Information
Recorded in 1992, “Christmas Sounds” is an all instrumental Christmas carol CD done in a decidedly keyboard-synth style. The inspiration for this project was taken from the multitude of "New Age" synth music that came out of the 1980's. I wanted to create something that captured the feeling of the season and still be true to my style of music, The Instrumental Style.

This project was done completely in the MIDI realm, with final output to 2 track tape. All of the tracks were realized first as MIDI tracks, then played back through various synth modules (some of which I borrowed for this project) and recorded to analog tape. It was quite fun writing the MIDI sequences because the computer interface I was using had a multi-track graphic look. It looked like I was recording to virtual digital tape, complete with the 2 tape reels spinning and everything. I learned a lot about MIDI that summer (yes, I was recording Christmas music during the summer). The original packaging was cassette tape. At the time it was the cheapest duplicating medium. In 2000, I transferred the entire audio mix to digital and made a limited run on CD. Unfortunately I had lost the original 2 track masters so I had to make the digital copy from one of the cassette copies. The sound quality does suffer a little from this process, which is why I never seriously considered selling this CD. Well, that and the cost to cover the copywrite for the songs. Some day I plan on making a follow up to this CD. I still have a couple of ideas for some Christmas songs yet in me.
