After years of waiting I finally purchased this Strat in 1996. While I wasn't crazy about getting a Mexican made Fender, the pricing point of these models made them very attractive. That and the abundance of instruments to choose from made it a bit easier to deal with. I knew from the start that I wanted a maple finger board. Unlike the Precision Basses, the collection of Strats I looked at was full of maple neck and finger board guitars. So, I sat down with about 12 guitars and just started playing them. This guitar was the second one I played and I kept coming back to it. I liked the feel of the neck, and I liked the color. I was very surprised to find such a diversity amoung instruments of the same make and model.![]() Of course I couldn't live with this thing too very long without modifying it. All of the mods performed on this guitar helped raise it's playablity and quality. The thngs I changed were as follows:
This is the only electric guitar I play on my recordings. With the advent of so many great amp simulator and modeling plug-ins for digital recording, it's very easy to just use one axe and tweak the tone later. Plus, I'm always comfortable playing because it's the same guitar. This is a big plus since guitar is not my first instrument. |
This is my third acoustic guitar and like most of my instruments, it has it's own unique story and history. I found this guitar at a local shop in Huntington Beach, CA in 1995. I was looking for something to bang around with (play at home and/or at the beach, etc.). Again, the price was right and the sound was awesome.
The top is solid spruce which helps with sound projection. The quilted ash back and sides are very nice fininshing touches that make this guitar turn heads. The attention to detail with the ivory and wood mosaic bindings and designs (on the back) helps to give this guitar the look of an instrument 3 to 4 times it's actual value.
The only issues I have had with this axe were 100% caused by me. I'm not afraid to say that I tried (and failed) to install a bridge pickup on this guitar. I may someday try to remedy this problem, but in the meantime I'm very content to record it using an external mic. |
